Jisub Kim is a leading trail runner representing Korea, known for his endurance and consistency across challenging terrains and long-distance races. He began his running journey in high school as a marathon athlete before transitioning to trail running, where he found a new level of challenge in mountainous environments. He first gained international attention with a podium finish at the Gobi Desert Race in 2013. More recently, he placed 3rd in the Ultra-Trail Mt. Fuji KAI 70km and won The North Face 100 Gangwon 100km in 2023. In 2024, he claimed victory at Hong Kong 100 (33km category), further establishing himself among Asia’s top trail runners. Kim’s strength lies in his ability to maintain pace and focus over extended periods under physically and mentally demanding conditions. Through consistent training and discipline, he continues to push his limits in the sport of trail running.
Trail running demands more than endurance. Athletes must constantly adapt to changing terrain, elevation, and environmental conditions, often over long distances and extended periods of isolation. Jisub Kim has built his strength in this demanding discipline by focusing on consistency and control rather than short bursts of performance.
Growing up in Wonju, surrounded by mountainous landscapes, Kim developed both physical resilience and mental endurance early on. His experience in military service further reinforced his ability to stay composed under pressure. These qualities have translated directly into his performance in major competitions, including a podium finish at Ultra-Trail Mt. Fuji, victory at The North Face 100 Gangwon, and a recent win at Hong Kong 100.
For Kim, maintaining rhythm over time is more important than speed alone. During training and races, he sometimes uses audio to regulate pace, but in trail environments, being aware of surrounding conditions is essential for safety and performance. In this context, Open-Ear headphones like Shokz fit naturally into his routine, allowing him to stay connected to both his pace and his environment.
Rather than relying on specific gear, Kim focuses on creating a training environment that supports consistency. For a trail runner navigating unpredictable conditions, that balance plays a key role in sustaining performance over time.
